CEN B6, VPAM VR7, STANAG III: Ballistic Levels Explained Simply

In the defense industry, we often speak in a code of letters and numbers. For a security coordinator or a fleet manager, these aren't just technical specs—they are the boundaries of safety.

At TAG Dynamics, we believe that understanding your protection should be as straightforward as the security it provides. Whether you are looking at our VPAM VR7 certified TLC 300 or a STANAG Level III SAIF ST-III, here is the simplified breakdown of what these levels actually mean in the field.

CEN B6: The International Standard

CEN (European Committee for Standardization) is the most common standard you will see for civilian armored vehicles.

  • The Protection:

It is designed to stop high-velocity rifle rounds, specifically the 7.62x51mm NATO ball ammunition.

  • Common Use:

Most "standard" armored SUVs, like our Terrier LT-79 or BATT UMG, are built to B6.

  • Human Factor:

It is the reliable "baseline" for urban security and high-risk transport where rifle fire is the primary threat.

VPAM VR7: The Perfectionist’s Choice

While CEN tests individual steel plates, VPAM (specifically Edition 3) tests the entire vehicle as a system.

  • The Protection:

VR7 is ballistically similar to B6, but the testing is far more brutal. It targets the "weak spots", door gaps, glass edges, and pillars.

  • The TAG Benchmark:

Our TLC 300 is a world-first VPAM Edition 3 VR7 certified vehicle. It survived over 580 rounds and 9 blasts with zero penetration.

  • Human Factor:

This is for missions where "good enough" isn't an option. It provides 360-degree peace of mind for dignitaries and high-profile assets.

STANAG 4569 Level III: Battlefield Ready

STANAG is a NATO military standard. When you move to Level III, you are moving away from "civilian" threats and into full-scale tactical combat.

  • The Protection:

Designed to stop Armor Piercing (AP) rounds and significant blast pressure from anti-tank mines.

  • The Vehicle:

This is where our SAIF ST-III MRAP lives. It is a purpose-built platform designed to survive the heaviest kinetic threats on the modern battlefield.

  • Human Factor:

This is about surviving the "unthinkable", ambushes, IEDs, and sustained heavy fire.
